I have been to Pulau Ubin many times. Each and every time has brought me some fun and friendship. This time around, I received a meaningful gift too. The gift for me is the opportunity to be part of the capacity building process of the group. Thanks to friends from Lotus Foundation and Searchers Myanmar for giving me such a wonderful experience.
Our journey started at 9am from Tampines interchange. We already felt happy and close to nature since we arrived at Changi Jetty. Most us took the boat ride to the Singapore's last Kampong "Palau Ubin". Some of us stayed behind to pack lunch from Changi Village as we expected to see larger crowd on the island. Since it was Hara Raya holiday, all famous Nasi Lamak sotres were closed. Fortunately, there was one stall selling Nasi Lamak and Bee Hon which could be packed and kept safely until lunch time. The queue was so long, we had to wait for about 45 minutes.
Now, we are ready to take the boat ride.
Pulau Ubin, here we come.
We cycled around the island, walked along the costal line at Chek Jawa, and decided to station at House No. 1, near Chek Jawa information center.
Ready for lunch
After luch, we all are ready for the game. What did Minn Thu bring for the day?
First Game was really fun and very useful to get to know each other. We have to declare a name with two syllables from our full names, for example "ma-saint" for me. This two-syllable name was used during the game.
Second Game - Helium Stick
Third Game - flipping the plastic sheet over. During the given five minutes, some of us were tasked to find out the three types of people - the initiators who usually initiate an idea, the criticizers who often point out the flaws and steer the group back to the right direction, and the anchors who neither initiate nor critize but do their best in implementing the action. None of the group was able to flip over the plastic sheet but I believe we learned about each other.

For a day, we had a chance to get close to the nature, the sea and the greens. For me just like getting closer to the small town in which I grew up. I enjoyed every single moment on the island.
Finally, home sweet home with fun, friendship and satisfaction. Thanks again friends. Hope to have more fun and more opportunities to work with you towards making our dreams come true.
